uTest Community – My Journey till today

For the first time I found something credible in this huge web. That’s uTest community for Software Testing professionals. I got to know about uTest during February 2009. My coach had told me until and unless you do not get job you could work for uTest and gain experience where at the same time you can earn some money. Initially I did not receive many projects and was not interested in participating because I used to get projects once in a new moon. Hence, I was not active and also I was caught in some job which was a blocker for me to participate in uTest release(s).

Active Participation

During October 2009, I heard that Q4 Bug Battle is going to commence. I thought, I have to participate in it and I did so. Guess what? I won an award – “Honorable Mention”. This gave me confidence and my journey started from there. I started getting many release(s) to test and my bug approval rating was very high & quality of bug reports that I wrote added to my bug approval rating.

Thanks to Peter Shih – Referred me to uTest forums

While I was communicating to Peter Shih over e-mail ( I hope he is not bored with my huge number of e-mails that I send him constantly ) he talked about uTest forums. However, I had registered in uTest forums a year back I had not peeked into it for many months. After Peter mentioned about it, then I went to forums and my first step was to reset the password ( I had forgot password hehe ). I logged into the forum and browsed different forums / categories and I must say that “It’s just AWESOME”. I said to myself, “I was missing such a great opportunities for learning” till now. I started involving in discussions and created new discussions and participated in various competitions as well.

Tester Case Study Spotlight

With the high bug approval rating Peter & Mike talked to me about highlighting me, in their Tester Case Study & I was very happy. You can visit Tester Case Study Spotlight here.

Q1 2010 Bug Battle

After Q4 2009 Bug Battle it was first Bug Battle in the year 2010 ( February month ). I was excited about it being commenced. After a long bug hunting for a week for TV Networks,,, results were announced somewhere during March 1st week. I was awarded as Top Tester & Best Bug #1 place with a cash prize of $900 ( Top Tester – $500 | Best Bug 1st – $400 ). You can read more about it here.

Crash Course Program Coach

After Q1 2010 Bug Battle, I was requested if I am interested in becoming Crash Course Program Coach. I said “YES” because I saw that this would be a good platform for me where I could influence other testers of the world by exposing them to good stuff & also a good learning opportunity for me in writing etc.

Please read article published which was written by Pradeep Soundararajan & me on Reporting Bug / Defect.

What am I waiting for?

–          More challenges

–          Next Bug Battle commencement

–          Coaching testers

–          Contributing to Crash Course Program

Token of Thanks & Appreciation

I must thank uTest crew in establishing such a wonderful community for Software Testing professionals. This is a platform where a newbie tester or experienced tester can have great learning more than just getting paid for your bugs logged which is an added opportunity ( According to me ).

Thanks to Project Managers who have been working passionately to help uTest customer & uTesters.

Thanks to uTesters for rocking uTest forums and sharing their knowledge with others which is amazing.

*Peter Shih – You rock. Thanks for those responses to all my e-mails & you continue to do so hehe*.

I hope you all enjoyed this blog post. Want to add uTest in favorites list? Go ahead.
